Another summer has come and gone here at Fringe Hair Art in beautiful Kennebunkport. While we are sad to see our summer friends leave for the winter, we know we will see them again before we know it. In the meantime, the salon is abuzz with the latest fall trends!

One of the fall trends we are absolutely in love with is the concept of the ‘Prada pony’ as we like to call it. Ponytails are no longer just for going to the gym or for those days when you hit the ‘snooze’ button one too many times for anything more elaborate.  This fall, ponytails are sleek and elegant. We love the ponytail for its flexibility. You can wear it in the office, out with your friends, or at an elegant dinner party.  

The low ponytail is an easy, yet chic way to keep your hair out of your face, while mimicking the high fashion of the fall runways. A loose, simple, low ponytail is the perfect complement to any outfit.  A great way to upgrade the low ponytail is to hide the elastic with a strand of hair held in place with a bobby pin.

We also love how the fall ponytails are all about volume volume volume! Teasing out the hair to give it more body on the top, or teasing it throughout the length of the ponytail gives it a messy-sheik that we are in love with! Fringe Hair Art and The Town of Kennebunkport, Maine

The sun is shining, the birds are singing, and here at Fringe Hair Art in Southern Maine, the blowdryers are humming. Summer has arrived along with all of the visitors and seasonal residents in Kennebunkport, Maine and we are so happy they are back! Seeing the familiar faces and catching up with clients we have not seen in months creates an atmosphere of a family get together in the hair salon.

We are also sending off bridal parties to their long-awaited ceremonies with stunning hair and makeup. It fills each one of us with excitement when the veil is placed on the beautiful bride's hair. Our celebrity makeup artist does an amazing job with airbrush makeup enhancing the natural beauty of the glowing brides as well.

A new trend in hair fashion has also hit the Kennebunkport area. Feather Locks. They are feather hair extensions that can be put in and taken out easily and quickly. Every one of us in the salon has definitely let our creativity rule with our own feathers. We each have different colors and have them placed differently in our hair so no two of us look remotely the same. Fringe and the Community

A community is only a community because everyone supports each other. I am sure everyone has a special place in their hearts for a local organization in their town.

We have a BIG place in our hearts for one of those organizations. PWR - Powerful Women Rise above. PWR, Fringe Hair Art's intiative, was created to empower women who have been victims of domestic violence. Fringe Hair Art provides complimentary hair services to women from shelters in order to raise their level of confidence before milestones like job interviews, etc. The staff at Fringe Hair Art in Kennebunkport, Maine loves to share their talents in hair coloring, cutting, and styling with the strong women who are beginning a new chapter in their lives and their children's lives.

These women have already sacrificed so much just by having the courage to leave the abusive relationships they were involved in. Domestic abuse has a way of making the victim feel weak and worthless. Fringe aims to prove to victims of domestic violence that they are important and have every reason to be confident and strong.

Fringe knows that beauty truly comes from the inside.

Currently, Fringe Hair Art is looking for pledges for the Fringe Team who is participating in Nicole's Run which benefits Caring Unlimited. Nicole's story is a heartbreaking story about how dangerous domestic violence situations can be, even after the victims leave. The purpose of the 5k run/walk is to break the silence that so often is associated with domestic violence.

Summer Hair Care Tips From Fringe Hair Art

The sun is shining down on all the happy people in Kennebunkport, Maine. If the sun has begun its summer pattern in your area you may want to start thinking about summer hair care.

The sun's UV rays can fade colored hair and damage it the same way it can damage your skin. To protect it during the days you spend hanging at the beach there are a few different products and tips we can give you.

Fringe Hair Art is an official Kerastase salon. Kerastase makes some amazing products, including their Soleil line of hair care.

For those worried about fading color Creme UV Defense Active acts as a barrier against the sun. It is a rinse out cream that contains UV filters to prevent loss of color from being out in the sunshine.

Kerastase also makes 2 leave-in treatments. One is Aqua-Seal, a protective hair care product for sensitized hair. Just squeeze a small amount of this and apply it throughout all of your hair and voila! A protected head of hair. This product has a waterproof effect as well so go ahead and hit the waves.

We have an amazing team of stylists and a makeup artist who can beautify you for your special day. Last year, Fringe Hair Art styled over 40 brides just during the summer season. They are very experienced in styling for special events such as weddings.

I can guarantee you will walk out of the salon knowing you made the right choice in bridal hair and makeup. Sheryl Miller heads the stylist as the Artistic Director and truly makes every consideration the bride requests before creating a style. Erin McCabe and Calina Hood are also very skilled and thoughtful stylists for the brides. The benefit of having 3 amazing stylists in one salon is that the entire wedding party can come in for hair and makeup while bonding with each other and leave looking elegant.

Our makeup artist, Laurel Wiley, is our Hollywood talent makeup artist. She has an extensive background in the Hollywood industry and is also considered our "brow expert."

Our Fringe Hair Art Artistic Director, Sheryl Miller

Sheryl is the foundation, heart, and soul of Fringe Hair Art.

She comes from an extensive background in the hair industry. This includes working as an assistant to Paul Mitchell as well as traveling internationally training other professionals in the industry.

Her expectations for herself and her employees are set to the highest standard.

Sheryl's background in hair starts in 1985 when she started doing hair. A mere 6 months later she was brought on to Paul Mitchell's team. Her talent was apparent early in her 26 year career. She grew up in the New England area and loves it here. She owned a salon in Manchester, NH that she sold before she moved to Manhattan, where she lived for 5 years. She worked building educational teams in several locations, and Paul Mitchell began flying her to London to work with a company called 365. 365 was a company that focused mainly on business and customer service.

The company taught along the lines that to be the best you must recognize the client's needs.

She was working steadily when she was transferred to Las Vegas, NV to open a new salon at Mandalay Bay. 10 years and a beautiful baby daughter later, she realized she wanted a more fitting community to raise her daughter in.

After coming to Kennebunkport, Maine for 30 years with her own family, Sheryl chose to launch Fringe Hair Art here. She noticed the lack in the community of a luxury salon, with the closest comparable salons being in Portsmouth, NH and Portland, ME she knew it was a good place to start.

Sheryl Miller had been creating other successful salons for so long that she knew it was finally time to start one for herself.

She chose to carry the Kerastase line in Fringe Hair Art. Kerastase came into the US 10 years ago and was launched in a salon where Sheryl was working. Although Sheryl still loves and has a great respect for Paul Mitchell, she chose Kerastase because it is a sophisticated and simplisitic luxury treatment line of hair products.

Sheryl constantly leads the team atmosphere at the hair salon in Kennebunkport, Maine. She is not above doing anything that needs to be done and leads by example. She personally trains the assistants who then move onto being New Talent on the floor when they "graduate" from the additional training Sheryl provides.

She always tells me there is nothing else she would have ever done.

There has never been a day that she has NOT wanted to go to work. As soon as she picks up her hair scissors, the outside world melts away and she is in her zone.

One thing continues to stick out in my mind that Sheryl once told me.

"It is not about what happens to us, it is alot how we respond to what happens to us. That's all we have control over."

Sheryl has certainly made her own dreams come true and continues to help others reach their dreams.
